Mike Rowe, best known as the creator and host of Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs, will be featured in a question and answer session at the November 15 Tradeapalooza and Career Fair presented by NH Bringing Back the Trades. The event, which will take place at the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, was created to celebrate and inspire a passion for skilled trades.
Rowe, who has worked alongside hundreds of Americans in over 350 vocations, has long advocated for educational pathways for the trades. He aims to educate Americans on the value of a skilled workforce and challenge the stigmas and stereotypes that discourage people from pursuing trade careers. Through his non-profit Mike Rowe Works Foundation, Rowe offers training, advocacy, and $1,000,000,000 in annual scholarships.
“Our crumbling infrastructure, our widening skills gap, the disappearance of vocational education, and the stratospheric rise in college tuition—these are not problems. These are symptoms of what we value. And right now, we have to reconnect the average American with the value of a skilled workforce. Only then will the next generation aspire to do the work at hand,” Rowe explains on his website.
Rowe’s commitment to the trades aligns perfectly with the NH Bringing Back the Trades' mission of helping students, parents, and job seekers learn more about career opportunities in the trades. In addition to Rowe’s presentation, the event will feature a trade career fair with representatives from over 75 New Hampshire companies.
“With increasing career opportunities in the trades, this event provides our company with an opportunity to inspire and connect with the next generation of skilled workers in our state,” says trade show sponsor Randy Furmanick of Dependable Controls Services in Seabrook.
As part of the event, $50,000 in scholarships will be awarded to qualified New Hampshire applicants.
According to event organizers, the event is nearly sold out, so get your tickets today!
